"The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. [Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. ...Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (Jn: 20-23)
Reconciliation or Penance In this Sacrament of healing, we meet forgiving Jesus. He helps us to “get up and walk”. Jesus promises to walk with us.
In St. Mary’s RE program, the Sacrament of Reconciliation can be received in the 2nd grade upon completing one year of Religious Education. We should go to this Sacrament often and encourage our children to do it on a monthly basis. Confession Times at St. Mary’s:
Saturdays: 3:00 pm – 4:40 pm
30-minutes before weekday Masses
By appointment
The five steps in the Sacrament of Reconciliation:
Examination of conscience (knowing our sins).
Contrition (being sorry for our sins).
Resolution (being determined to avoid sin in the future).
Confession (telling our sins to the priest).
Penance (carrying out the action imposed by the priest in restitution).
Sin hurts our relationship with God, ourselves, and others.
